Additional information
For hundreds of years the powerful effects of Cinnamon have been known. Apart from its pleasant, heady taste, wines and other beverages mulled with strong doses of Cinnamon were thought to give protection against a wide variety of illnesses.
A Brief History
It was over two centuries ago in 1745, that Edward Langdale set up his distillery on Holborn Hill, London, to produce Essence of Cinnamon. Unfortunately, some 35 years later in 1780, Langdale's Distillery was burned to the ground and totally destroyed by rioters, during the 'Lord Gordon Riots'. Led by Cosmo George, Duke of Gordon, a mob of 10,000 people swept through the City of London in an orgy of destruction. The annual register of 1780 gives a vivid description of the mob fighting in the streets to obtain the potent spirits of wines used to make the Essence.
So moved by the event was Charles Dickens that he gives a graphic account of the destruction of the distillery in 'Barnaby Rudge'. Happily Edward Langdale was able to rebuilt his distillery and continue producing Cinnamon Essence, which became even more popular.
It was later in the 19th century that Langdale's Essence of Cinnamon achieved widespread fame.
In the years that followed, Langdale's Essence of Cinnamon grew increasingly popular having its merits fully tested by the members of His Majesty's Civil Service, the army, Navy, Police and many large firms, as described in an advertisement from the 1920's
Many people have found that taking cinnamon essence regularly helped them overcome a variety of complaints.
Today Langdale's Essence of Cinnamon is still based on Edward Langdale's original formulation, although produced in modern laboratory conditions using only the finest quality natural ingredients. It continues to enjoy widespread popularity amongst those people who appreciated the value of a more natural way to good health.
